Amanda Chocolat

First, an
announcement: i now have a small online portfolio (information on it are in french but everyone can see the drawings) :)

Next, I've been published in Zaza Mimosa, special issue about cooking
The story is by Bernard Friot.

Here is a kind of "how it's made" to celebrate
First someone really nice contact you, and said he/she thinks your work is amazing, and would you be interested in illustrating a story for a magazine.
Then, you answer that you would be delighted.
And after that, you are being sent a layout. In pink (or in other color) is the placement and size of the wooonderfull illustration you're going to make. Most of the time, there is a description of what the illustration should represent.

Next, the rough drawings (these below are really rough... some are less...). I e-mail them to the magazine, and receive a feed back. If everything is approved, I move on to the next step; Otherwise, th drawings go back and forth until they're happy with it.

For this story, the next step was inking. I used an old fashion pen and thick black ink!

I then scanned the B&W drawing and did the color with my computer. (The final version of the first rough drawin is in the post below the previous, and in my online portfolio, so i don't post it here.)

"quoi? plus jamais de chocolat???!"
"what? Not anymore chocolate... ever?"

La pluie et le beau temps

But who cares about the weather? I'm happy happy happy! I'm starting a new commission: illustration for a story in a magazine (the same one that commissioned me the story on the Chocolate Girl in the previous post). And I'm to do the cover this time. They are so nice with me!
I'm also starting another corporate serie of illustrations for the Galeries Lafayette who seems to like what i'm doing too. It feels woooooooonderfull.
I've lately done something veeery special: I did a comic strip following previously established character design that were completel different from my usual/ natural style. It was painful when i started, and gradually get more and more interesting, as i started to understand the graphic codes i was supposed to use. I therefore wandered on the internet, and discovered new blogs more belgian Comic strip related. I see the king of drawing involved in the making of these from quite a new angle now.
I added the links in the "new links" section, along with other new links: way too much, because i've been procrastinating lately, as usual before starting new projects...
